Hydrogen Pipeline Installed in Deventer, Netherlands

Exciting progress is being made in Deventer, the Netherlands, with the installation of a hydrogen pipeline as part of the Hy2Market project. This marks a significant milestone in advancing regional hydrogen transport infrastructure and supporting the development of a local hydrogen economy.

The pipeline, developed by SoluForce®, is a high-pressure Flexible Composite Pipe (FCP) specifically designed and certified for hydrogen transport. Unlike traditional steel pipes, SoluForce’s polymer-based pipeline can be deployed in long sections from 400-meter spools, significantly reducing costs for groundwork and welding while ensuring a permeation-free hydrogen transport solution.

A Key Step Towards a Local Hydrogen Grid

This pipeline is an important step in creating a local hydrogen network in Deventer, developed in collaboration with Firan and the GROHW project. The 2×120 meter pipeline will connect a local tubetrailer bay and a future 2.5 MW electrolyzer to a hydrogen test facility at Nefit Bosch with 9.5 bar, as well as to industrial off-takers through a future local hydrogen grid operating at 16 bar, enabling businesses in the area to access clean hydrogen as a sustainable energy source.

The installation in Deventer is one of the key pilot projects within Hy2Market’s hydrogen transport activities. By deploying innovative transport solutions like SoluForce’s flexible pipeline, the project aims to accelerate the rollout of cost-effective and scalable hydrogen infrastructure across Europe.

Advancing Hydrogen Transport in Europe

The successful installation of this pipeline demonstrates the potential of innovative hydrogen transport solutions within Hy2Market and supports the development of hydrogen distribution standardization through Firan. This project will serve as a valuable demonstration for future hydrogen transport applications, with insights that can be applied in other regions and projects within the Hy2Market framework.
