Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche
The Institute of Advanced Energy Tecnologies “Nicola Giordano” (ITAE) is one Institutes of the Engineering, ICT and Technologies for Energy and Transport Department (DIITET) of the National Research Council (CNR) of Italy. Within the Department, ITAE’s strategic mission is mainly aimed at promoting and developing innovative energy processes and technologies with a higher efficiency and a lower environmental impact based on the use of fossil fuels (still available today) and/or renewable energy sources. ITAE develops technologies in the fields of energy storage, hydrogen and fuel cells, alternative fuels, heat pumps, etc.
Our role in the project
CNR-ITAE is responsible of the Work Package 2 “Green Hydrogen Production and Management Systems”. Its role in Hy2Market is based on the development of the Sicilian pilot and on the design of a decision support tool for hydrogen production technologies in relation to different industrial applications.
Our impact within our region
CNR-ITAE represents Sicily region in consortium, coordinating all the activities related to the Sicilan pilot and Italian partners. Green hydrogen production and utilization in Sicily can represent an important option for decarbonization of hard-to-abate industrial sector, since the region is crucial in Italy for refinering and petrochemicals plants presence. Green hydrogen blending will be used in the Sicilian pilot to lowering CO2 emission of a peaker turbine fed by natural gas. This will be the first plant of green hydrogen blending with natural gas for peaker turbine application in the region.
